5 Junior Boys Selected

Horwich RMI had 5 Junior boys selected to represent Bolton Town last weekend in the Primary Schools XC held at Gatley, Cheshire
We had two boys Lewis & Thomas who helped the Bolton team achieve Silver medals in a closely run race. Jack Morris, Sam Twist
and Jake Glendenning were the other Horwich runners fortunate to have been selected. Congratulations Lads !

UPDATE: McCains Inter Counties XC Championships

UPDATE: McCains Inter Counties XC Championships – Cofton Park, Birmingham

On January 5th, Janet Rashleigh, Nathan Townsend and Martyn Bell were selected for the Lancashire XC team and on March 9th competed at Cofton Park (Longbridge, SW Birmingham) at the Inter Counties XC Championships. This championship also incorporated the final McCain UK Cross Challenge which consists of five cross country fixtures across the UK throughout the autumn/winter season – they are of the highest calibre XC races in the UK and certainly worth our aspiring youngsters and seniors to have the confidence and motivation to compete in. They attract the very best in each age category.

This is an event that our very own Paul Dugdale won in 1991 and just shows the calibre of Paul in his heyday. Further information on the winners in each age category can be found on the link below.

http://www.britishathletics.org.uk/media/news/march-2013/09-03-13-world-cross-trials/

Well its not often a near 45 and a 52 year old gets selected for the Lancashire cross country team – Janet Rashleigh who will be 52 on the 14th March, competed in style showing the youngsters how to do it and finishing the 8km course in 157th position. Martyn finished a credible 128th position for the 12km but caused some confusion as the course was actually 6.59 miles so nearly 1 mile short !

These races can always be slightly frustrating as your “pen position” plays an important role in how the first 3-4 miles go with lots of energy and time lost working through a significant amount of runners. The course was extremely undulating and muddy (the Mid lancs XC league has certainly provided some useful exposure to muddy conditions).

The mens team had quite a number of changes last minute, most noteably Keith Gerrard (the winner at the National several weeks ago) who pulled out 4 days before to concentrate on a 10k race. That said, the Lancashire mens team still went on to retain a “gold” medal as the strongest 9 man county team, demonstrating the depth and quality that exists in the county.

Picture: Lancashire won gold as the fastest “9 man” county team in the UK.

Nathan Townsend had his call up for Lancashire Counties. The second vest for NATHAN in as many years. Pleased with his result he said the course was tough, muddy and fast, however pleased to be representing the club at county level.

Picture: Nathan and the team.

Upcoming Races

Upcoming Races

Hey up Racers

Next Mid Lancs cross country is this Saturday at Lancaster on Saturday 9th Feb, details on the Mid Lancs website, once again we need a team of at least 6 senior men to gain points.

The first Central Lancs Grand Prix of 2013 is the Bolton 5k starting and finishing on the track at Leverhulme Park Bolton on Sunday 17th Feb at 11am

I realise that this weekend we have a clash with the Winter Hill Fell Race but hopefully we can get at least 6 men out which will mean enough points to secure our place in the top division.

But – next week the Bolton 5k does not clash with any other races ( including Fell ) so we should be able to put together a strong team to kick start the season, have a look on the website to find the details about the Grand Prix. The main competition is first 10 to count from each club, ladies or men.

See you soon

Northern Cross Country

Northern Cross Country – Knowsley 26-01-13

Trio brave the winter elements.

Three Horwich RMI Harriers braved the harsh weather conditions on Saturday to compete in the Northern Cross Country Championships at Knowsley Safari Park. The six inches of snow overnight on Friday slowly turned into a complete mud bath for the men’s race over the championship distance of 12km. First home for Horwich was Dave Milliken who completed the course in 98th position in 48.14 with Bobby Kasabov next home in 57.41 and Pete Ramsdale completing the team in 70.15. The race was won for the fifth year in a row by Stockport Harrier Steve Vernon on 40.01. Nearly 600 in the race.

PS – I’ve had enough of this mud now – its time for a change – when is the next road race/fell race.

Next Horwich RMI Harriers fight for survival in the next round of the Mid Lancs Cross Country at Lancaster. Hope people are going to Blackburn on Sunday next week……..

Leigh XC 19.1.13

Leigh XC 19.1.13

It was a hardy bunch of veterans that braved the snow in this, the penultimate race in the South East Lancs league. Sean McMyler was our first finisher, going out hard from the off he was home in 32nd place (3rd V50) with a time of 38.43. Mark Swindell was our next finisher in 45.07, closely followed by Michael Crook (3rd V60) in 46.11. Our other 2 runners Steve Jackson and John Parker battled each other for the final places, with each taking it in turn to get in front. Steve held on at the finish in 49.48 just ahead of John (1st V70) in 49.54.

Thanks to the organisers & marshalls for braving the cold and allowing the race to go ahead.

Horwich secure top division competition next year

Horwich secure top division competition next year

Horwich RMI Harriers ran in the fourth round of the very competitive Mid Lancs Cross Country League at Hyndburn at Saturday with their future in the top division reliant on a good solid performance from all the runners. On a very heavy muddy course the men had 1 medium and 2 large laps to contend with in this 10km race. This course has been used for the Red Rose meeting before Christmas and it was bad enough then. First home for Horwich was the ever reliable and England cross country representative Martyn Bell who was 9th overall and first Vet 40 in 38.55. This was another excellent personal performance and this was going to make a huge contribution to the team performance too. Bobby Kasabov making only his second outing on the cross country scene for Horwich pulled some places back on the third lap to finish in 75th in 46.30. Gary Chadderton and Doug Fleming once again battling every step of the way were the next two in for Horwich in 95th and 99th place in 47.55 and 48.09 respectively. Doug managed a ‘Pete R’ by falling over – but did better than Pete cos he promptly got up and finished. The next two counters were critical and the Pete’s of Ramsdale and Bland were the next two home to complete the team. After his fall last week Pete R was taking it steady until he saw Blandie behind with half a mile to go and this was the incentive to push on a little. Pete R finished in 184th in 57.56 with Pete B next in 58.10. The ever reliable John Parker, Vet 70, was next home in 209th place in 62.45 ensuring that Horwich completed that all important team. The team managed 5th on the day and with two fixtures left it is now looks very promising for another season in the top division next year. The race was won by James Douglas of Border Harriers in 36.18.

What we need now is a good Vet 40 team for Lancaster then we might push that team up a division, but we must finish a good team at Lancaster then our division one status is ensured. Come on boys.

In the ladies race Janet Rashleigh was first home for Horwich in 8th place overall and first vet 45 in 28.17. Suzanne Budgett was next home in 17th in 29.32 with Josie Greenhalgh in her first competitive cross country race for Horwich the third counter in 25th in 30.41. Christa Whatmough battled every step of the way to finish in 44.51.

These performances gave Horwich Ladies 3rd team on the day and 1st vet team. Again team performances in the last two races and we can move Horwich up a division with the ladies and lady vets teams.

See you all in Lancaster on the 9th Feb

Peter Ramsdale

Mid Lancs – Hyndburn

Mid Lancs – Hyndburn

The mud today stuck to shoes like concrete making your legs heavier & heavier to lift. Nonetheless this didn’t stop Jan Rashleigh from having a good strong run to finish 8th overall. The rest of the ladies team was made up by Suzanne Budgett followed by first timer Josie Greenhalgh who had a brill run over her first xc in many years. Despite a fall near the start & jarring her back, Christa Whamough showed grit determination & had a fantastic run over a tough, heavy course. The ladies finished 3rd team & 1st vets team. The more ladies that turn out, the more achievements we can make in the various team categories, no matter what pace you run at. It’s turning out in numbers that counts.

Lancashire Cross Country Championships 5th Jan Witton Park

Lancashire Cross Country Championships 5th Jan Witton Park

Congratulations to all Horwich RMI runners at these championships, especially the Ladies who clearly excelled in the wet muddy conditions
The Ladies were led home by Rachel Jones winning the individual Ladies Gold Medal. This spearheaded the charge for an overall 2nd team place with:
1st Rachel Jones
7 Janet Rashleigh
10 Debby Campbell
14 Suzanne Budgett
The team was also successful with the 1st Ladies vets prize and an individual Gold for Rachel Jones
Not to be outdone the men also performed with
12th Martin Bell 1st Vet
24th Sean McMyler 3rd vet 50
67th Paul Murray 1st Vet 70

These runs will surely result in at least 2 county vests late this year. Well done to all

Hyndburn Cross Country

Hyndburn Cross Country

Great Manchester Cross Country

Great Manchester Cross Country

The annual GMXC took place in wonderful sunshine at Woodbank Park Stockport on Saturday 5th January 2013. Just four Horwich senior men made the journey more to get some new year racing in. First home in this 4 lap 11.6km race was Doug Fleming in 53rd position in 53.08. John Parker was next home in 90th place in a time of with 66.17 with Gordon Stone completing the trio of finishers in 94th place in 70.29. The winner was Carl Hardman of Salford in 40.02 with Joe Bailey also of Salford in second. With Salford Harriers also in positions 4th and 5th they easily won the team award. The fourth runner who started but didn’t finish was Pete Ramsdale who fell on lap 1, attended the first aid tent and later that day spent 3 hours in A&E having his wounds cleaned (Ouch!). Thanks guys.

Red Rose XC Bolton

Red Rose XC Bolton

The final race in the 2012 Red Rose Cross Country League took place at Leverhulme Park on Saturday with quite a few red vests worn by juniors and seniors.

The under 11 boys had six runners contesting the first race of the day over a wet and heavy course. Lewis Wilkes completing his first Red Rose league finished in 6th place just 12 seconds behind second place. This was another quality performance by Lewis who has made an excellent start to his cross country experience. Thomas Massey was 12th in 7.25, Robert Seddon was 20th in 7.32 just ahead of Jack Morris in 22nd in 7.32. Lucas Milliken was 27th in 8.08 with Matthew Flatters 32nd in 8.19 and Jake Glendenning completed the turn out of red vest with a 39th place in 8.44. These performances placed Horwich in 3rd place on the day. In the Under 11 girls race Penny Townsend came 4th in 7.46 producing an excellent performance in the muddy course. Anna Walton was next home in 8.08 in 10th place.

In the under 13 boys race Daniel Rowe was our only representative and he battled around two laps in 13.22 to finish in 40th place. The under 15’s had the sole representative of Sam Knight who finished in 25th place in 23.46

The ladies race Suzanne Budgett ran really well to finish in 6th place and 1st vet 45 in 23/49 and Michelle Divine in her next cross country race after her successes in the Mid Lancs league finished in 16th place in 25.28

In the Vet 65/70 race we had the first team to finish with the mature quality of Paul Murray, John Parker and Pete Scott making up the team. Paul was 1st vet 70 in 28.05 with John second vet 70 in 28.49 with Pete third vet 65 in 29.54. John Parker wins the series too.

In the men’s race Dave Milliken was first home in 18th place in 39.38, new dad Bobby Kasabov did his first cross country race ever and ran well to be second counter in 79th place in 48.06 , ever green Tony Hesketh was 2nd vet 60 on the day in position 108 in 49.28. Mark Swindell was next home just behind Tony in 114 place in 49.53. The final trio of Pete Ramsdale, Michael Crook and Gordon Stone finished in 53.14, 54.08 and 59.00 respectively.

Over the series Dave Milliken finished 1st in his category, V45 with Tony Hesketh taking the V60 first prize. Suzanne Budgett was first V45 in the ladies categories. Presentation night 1st March 2013– Horwich RMI social club from 7.30pm.

Kendal XC 8.12.12

Kendal XC 8.12.12.

A great turn out of Harriers for the journey to Kendal, helped us gain some much needed points in the Mid Lancs League. Strong performances by Suzanne Budgett in 12th and 1st V45 (26.35), Michelle Devine (28.49) and Christa Whatmough (36.22) helped our ladies team to a top half finish.

In the mens race it was a case of the dirty dozen, with an impressive 12 runners completing the 4 lap course. Fresh from their International efforts were Martyn Bell 8th and 2nd V40 (33.42), & Gareth Booth (37.29). Dave Jackson (39.58), Doug Fleming (40.43), Billy Martin (41.08) & Gary Chadderton (42.53) helped our A team to 8th position.

The B Team was made up of Mark Swindell (45.05), Petes Ramsdale (47.38) & Bland (48.50), John Parker (50.36) just edging past Gordon Stone (50.55) & making a welcome return from injury was Mark Birbeck (54.30)

Marshals Needed Saturday – Bolton XC Leverhulme Park

Its our turn to help out with the marshaling at Bolton on Saturday and if anyone can offer a small time to help out that would be excellent. Training will be supplied along with bibs and chocolate bars. Needed from 12.15pm for an hour (rota allows you to do half an hour or less if two or more come forward). Hopefully the seniors running on Saturday will give me a short time to support the juniors.

Thanks

British Masters XC

British Masters XC – Belfast
Saturday 10th November 2012

Gareth Booth and Martyn Bell ventured over to Belfast last Saturday to represent England in the British and Irish X/Country championships.

The original venue was Stormont, but due to the course being heavily flooded and to minimise the risk of cancellation on the event day, the Queens University Playing Fields was selected.

The course was 8k and relatively flat with only a few bumps and boggy patches to contend with – the first 4 of 6 England runners would contribute towards the “team” effort in which England eventually went onto win gold.

Age groups 35-39 / 40-44 / 45-49 all ran in the same race and within the M40-44 Category, Martyn eventually finished 6th and Gareth 15th. A fairly respectable result for both but lessons learnt and experience gained to take into the winter races.

A great evening followed with Guinness flowing well at the famous “Crown” pub before attending the dinner / presentation evening at the Europa Hotel.

Mature Performances

Mature Performances

Some of the more mature runners at Horwich were the only attendees at the second round of the Mid Lancs Cross Country at Liverpool on Saturday. The Liverpool venue also plays host to the second round of the McCain Cross Country challenge which brings quality runners from as far afield as Scotland and Guernsey. The average age of the Horwich septuplets was over 57 and with a wet and quite muddy course it was always going to be hard going. Doug Fleming (V50) was first back in 40.44 with Gary Chadderton (V50) second back in 41.40. After a small gap young Mark Swindell (V40) was next back in 45.19. Cross Country captain Pete Ramsdale (V50) was next home in 47.58 closely followed by Pete Bland (V65) in 48.22 with Gordon Stone (V50) just getting the better of John Parker (V70) with times of 49.57 and 50.55 respectively.

We therefore completed a senior men’s team, a vet 40 team and a vet 50 team with the same first six runners home – team results out later this week.

Next race Kendal 8th December – are you able to go – share a car – let’s have a day out – share everyone’s success. Ask around.

South East Lancs – Clayton Vale – Saturday 17th Nov

South East Lancs – Clayton Vale – Saturday 17th Nov

A select band of Horwich runners made the journey to central Manchester for the second of the South East Lancs Cross Country races. The relatively flat course was good for speedy running with not much heavy mud but some slippy patch’s round the four lap course for the men and three laps for Debbie Campbell.

The lady’s race had the sole representative of Debbie who ran a controlled race chasing the lead 3 runners all the way. She completed the course in 4th in a time of 30.27 with the race winner Clare Platt of Manchester YMCA in 29.13.

The senior men’s race had Tony Hesketh and Pete Ramsdale battling on lap one with Tony pulling away after lap 1 to be first Horwich man back in 48.29. Tony was 3rd V60 too. Pete completed the course in 50.52 (8th V55) while John Parker (V70) was back in 53.05 and 1st in his category. Gordon Stone completed the Horwich continent in 56.28.

In the centenary year since the formation of the South East Lancs Cross Country it’s special to be involved in the league this year.

Red Vests at the Red Rose XC

In excellent sunshine but with lots of mud and a chilly cross wind, some red vests of Horwich turned out to compete in the third round of the Red Rose XC meeting at Hyndburn on the Saturday 10th Nov.

First out were the under 11’s boys and briefly in the lead at the start was Lewis Wilkes who finished an excellent 6th after over a mile of mud and hills. Lucas Millikan worked his way through the field to finish 30th with Jack Morris in 31st. Completing the Horwich contingency was Jake Glendenning was 39th. The boys team finished in 7th place. In the under 11 girls race Horwich’s only entrant was Anna Walton who finished in 13th place.

The under 13’s had Daniel Rowe in 46th place and in the under 15’s race Samuel Knight was 30th.

The senior ladies had Suzanne Budgett impressing with a 9th overall and first V45 with April Stevenson in her first cross country of the season and a speedy start completing the course in 39th with nearly one hundred in the field.

First Horwich counter in the main race was Mick Green in 109th with Mark Swindell in 120th, Tony Hesketh in 126th with Pete Ramsdale in 143th and Gordon Stone in 176th. John Parker had another excellent performance with 1st V70. Pete Scott a V65 battled around the course to complete it just behind John Parker.

Tent and flag packed up – See you in Liverpool on the 24th Nov ** Note different start times**

The Overall Club Champs Tables are now up to date.

Apologies for the delay this year in the updating of all the tables. It appears there was some confusion over who was maintaining them this year.

Many thanks for the hard work of Karen Murray over the last few days in bringing all the tables up to date.

RR XC Witton Pk, Blackburn

Plenty of red vests on show today. Four ladies had great runs with Debbie Campbell leading the way followed by Suzanne Budgett, Michelle Devine & Christa Whatmough. Comparably dry underfoot to previous years but still shoes lost during the race. The ‘Teaspoon’ was added as well as the ‘Saucer’ giving us all an extra climb. Looked like we had quite a few men out too but perhaps one of the men in on the action can enlighten on the mens section? Unfortunately Pete Ramsdale was proper sick and was bravely sat tucked away in his car somewhere whilst Christine Ramsdale stood in for him, so mega ‘thanks’ from everyone for all her efforts distributing numbers etc. We all wish Pete a speedy recovery. One to note for older Vet Category men – today some of the older vet men ran with the Senior Women, doing a shorter course than the Senior Men. Unsure whether this is a one off or a permanent fixture. Unable to see anything on Red Rose web but Paul Murray ended up missing his race due to this change. One to watch out for.

Heaton Park XC

There was a decent turnout of Harriers for the 1st race in this 100th year anniversary of the South East Lancs League. Although we weren’t able to field a Ladies team on this occasion our 2 entrants put in great performances – Debbie Campbell in 4th closely followed by Maria Lowe in 6th.

In the Mens event, the team finished 10th with the Vets team finishing 6th. Sean McMyler (32nd) was our 1st finisher followed by Mark Swindell (93rd ), Colin Wood(100th ), Michael Crook (107th & 3rd V60), Pete Ramsdale(126th ) & Gordon Stone (151st )

Barrow In Furness XC

Last Saturday The Fifth round of the Mid Lancs XC races was contested.
First up was Nathan Townsend in the U15’s boys. Having a great race after initially leading for some time. Nathan earned himself a great 6th place.

The Senior Men lead the way with Gareth Booth home in 8th, pleased with that. An excellent 36th and 38th from Zac Howe & David Jackson gave the team a good start. Andy Townsend and Tim Roe both much quicker times than Last Year home in 38th & 57th. We needed a good performance from Doug Fleming who did not disappoint home in 79th. This gave the team a well deserved 5th place and more importantly still retaining 3rd in the league. It will all be hinged on the last race at Leyland to claim the bronze. Guys lets have as good a turnout as we did at Hynburn.

Hyndburn Cross Country

Hyndburn Cross Country – Saturday 14th Jan 2012

On a beautiful sunny day, in fantastic conditions under foot, we had our best turnout of Horwich RMI runners for many a day. The Target was to beat Preston and remain in bronze medal place in the league and we did it with ease so thanks go to everybody who turned out and especially our first 6 placed runners who made the team.

Too many runners (17) to mention everyone by name but just a few names that need a mention – another quality run by Gareth in 11thOverall looking stronger this year, great 2nd place by young Dave looking good on the country, Zach is maintaining his fast starts for longer now and bring on the day he keeps it up all the way round, he was leading after 400mtrs. Graham is back in form after his short break from running and was flying towards the end passing Jonesy who was slip sliding around in his Nike road shoes, then making up the team in 6th place was the ever improving Andy Townsend just holding off Sean by 16 seconds. Good team effort lads.

Nice to see Andy Porter back racing and looking good, Billy looked out of place in 187th but rumour had it that he had not run for 6 weeks and this was his comeback run.

Thanks again to Pete Ramsdale for bringing the tent and looking after everybody on the day.

11 G.Booth 33.48 148 G.Chadderton 44.02
38 D.Jackson 37.12 168 D.Fleming 45.13

We had 3 lady runners in the ladies race, Lindsay Brindle finishing in a creditable 4th place overall, Suzanne Budgett in a brilliant 13th and Kate Porter on a comeback making up the team in 80th.

A good Day out

Red Rose XC 2011-12

The RR committee met on Wednesday 7th Dec to confirm positions and sort trophies for the current season.

Our winners are confirmed as Lyndsey Brindle 2nd lady overall, Suzanne Budgett first lady vet and Tony Hesketh first vet 60.

We had two nearly won’s with Isabel Dean finishing in 7th in the under 11’s having an excellent season in the mud and the ladies team finished third overall – medals for first two teams – after winning in the first two races they lost by just 2 points to Rossendale 96 to 98.

Whilst this league continues to be the club’s second XC priority, all the local clubs support this league and all the races are completed by Christmas!

Help at Bolton, Leverhulme Park Cross Country 12th Nov

On Saturday Bolton Harriers host the third round of the Red Rose Cross Country races for the 2011-2012 season. I am looking for some help/support with marshalling the early races for the boys and girls.

Any seniors able to arrive for the early races – 12.30pm to 1.15pm would be most appreciated. Any parents of the little runners who can stay for 20mins after their race could also marshal for 15mins – that would be excellent.

This is our commitment to the league as we cannot host our own cross country. Thanks.

Northern’s and National Cross Country Entries

If anyone wished to enter the Northern Cross Country Championship at Pontefract, West Yorkshire on Saturday 28th January 2012 and/or the National Cross Country Championship at Parliament Hill, London on Saturday 25th February 2012 – please contact Pete Ramsdale and let him know as entries need to be in by mid-December.

Both races are £6 but remember you cannot do the Nationals if you haven’t entered the Northern’s. Remember in 2012, the year of the Olympics – you did competitive running in the capital city. Think about it.

A good turnout from the Harriers for the first of the Mid Lancs series, which seems to go from strength to strength each year, not only does it get quality but there was 329 runners just in the mens race alone.

Anyway what an amazing run from Gary, 1st overall , what a start to the season, he is currently training very hard and it is beginning to pay off with some high quality results. Long may it continue and lets hope we can support him as well if not better than we did at Burnley. In this league it is 6 to count in the team so the next 5 did really well with only 2 minutes separating them, it brought us into 4th team place not many points behind 3rd, so that should be our next target at Liverpool on the 26th November.

Numbers for the ladies were not so good but our loan representative Suzanne Budgett gave a good account finishing 15th overall and 3rd in category.

I would like to mention everybody who ran Saturday but I haven’t enough space so I will just say a big thanks to everybody who ran and a special thanks to Pete Ramsdale who organised the numbers, the tent and some welcome goodies on the day – thanks Pete.

The next race at Sefton Park, Liverpool has different start times to the other races they are:
Senior Women – 1.20pm – Senior Men – 2.00pm

Red Rose XC Hyndburn

Sat 22 Oct ’11.

Juniors

In the latest round of the Red Rose XC we had several juniors exceed their expectations.

In the U11’s Isobel Deans performance was matched by her result. Making up 3 better places than her Leigh run to come in a splendid 5th girl in her race. Jonathan Birchall had a storming run in the U13 Boys race coming home in 7 places better than Leigh in 7th. In the U15 girls Jodie Greenhalgh had the best start to her XC season home in 5th. Lucy Phillpotts had yet another strong performance home in 22nd. Boys U15’s Nathan Townsend after falling in the race a satisfied 8th after the incident. Jonathan Powis also ran a great race coming home in 15th place.

AT.

Ladies

A fantastic turnout of eight ladies for this race and what an exciting race ensued at the top end between Lindsey Brindle, Rachael Thompson & Louisa Thompson (Leigh). I know Rachael had a fall which lost her valuable seconds but she still made good ground finishing just 6 seconds behind Lindsey giving her third overall. Great to see Rachael regaining her old form. It was literally the clash of elbows between Lindsey & Louisa, neither giving way all the way to the finish line. It must have been in the ‘dip’ on the line as both girls have been given the same time but first place awarded to the Leigh Harrier. We had 4 ladies in the top 10 giving us first team again. A great start to the season. Superb runs too from Debbie Campbell (third Horwich counter), Michelle Devine, April Stevenson, Christa Watmough & Brenda Hesketh. Well done to the ladies – lets keep this momentum going.

SB.

Mens

With many of our men taking an end of season break, or with the cross country targets elsewhere, there was non the less a good number of harriers in attendance. Gareth Booth had an excellent run to finish 6th overall and first vet. Good runs from Graham Schofield, Andy Townsend, Doug Fleming, Tony Hesketh, a close battle between Colin Wood and Pete Ramsdale, and Ainsley Murphy completed the team.

Red Rose

Leigh Sports Village – Sat 8th October 2011.

A new venue & a flat, fast course. Disappointing to see only five ladies turn out on this first of the season xc & even less ladies on the pre entry list. However, I remain optimistic that there will be entries on the day & the numbers will turn out in force to support the Club & ladies at forthcoming events. Despite the few numbers, the ladies that did turn out did a grand performance both individually and team wise scooping 1st team overall. A great start to the season and a great team effort, once again showing Horwich still as some fight & dominance. Come on girls, buck your ideas up and get them spikes out – we need YOU!
