Next Grand Prix race & 1st relay of the year

Next Grand Prix race & 1st relay of the year

We had a great start to the Central Lancs Grand Prix last Sunday with 26 RMI members toeing the line, In the Grand Prix series we finished 2nd in the overall race only 4 points behind Bolton, 1st in the vets and 3rd in the ladies.

The next race in the series is on Sunday 3rd March

The Burnden Road Runners 5m trail race at the Smithills Sports Centre, Smithills Dean Road, Bolton, start time 10am. 50% of the race is on tarmac and road shoes are probably best.

We then have a break of 6 weeks to the next Grand Prix Race at Radcliffe

1st race in Central Lancs Grand Prix

Well done folks! 26 runners from Horwich RMI Harriers raced this first race of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix and made sure we are in contention from the start. The results for the Grand Prix have not been published yet but we will be in contention in all categories. I will put them up on the site when they are available.
I cannot mention everybody individually but must congratulate Rachel for winning the ladies race and Maria and Sue for backing her up to win the ladies team. Also well done to the men who raced and were not at their best, but did it for the club.
Once again a great turnout, lets follow it up with another at the Burnden 5m trail race on the 3rd March

Witton Winter Warmer 10k

Horwich RMI Seniors 2nd Place at Witton 10k

After a juniors result of 4 out of 4 could the seniors go one better, well almost. In cold weather sleet and rain the seniors put up a good race. And for a consecutive year came in as second team, after Blackburn.

Regular Witton runners Richard Howarth & Rob Jackson managed 8th & 9th respectfully Rob also managing to claim 1st V45. Andy Townsend in at 16th with 3rd V45 and completing the team Sean McMcmyler in at 24th and 2nd V50. Not to be outdone Paul Boardman a fantastic 49th. Maria Lowe now getting back to fitness managing a brilliant 2nd female finisher in at 63rd. The size of the race one of the biggest for a while 299 finishers making the RMI results very respectable indeed.

All in all a good days results for Juniors and Seniors alike.

Horwich Juniors Win 4 out of 4

Horwich Juniors Win 4 out of 4

Cold Sunday Mornings are for creating History, particularly for the Juniors of Horwich RMI.

A fast 2.5k race saw Nathan Townsend who lead the field most of the way come home to win the race and take 1st M14 medal and a new course record.

Next In we had Lewis Wilkes his first road run came in 11th place with 1st M11. Not to be outdone Olivia Lowe her first road race for the club in, in 14th the 1st F13. Outstanding performance from Thomas Massey brought him in, in 16th the 1ST m9 Runner.

So to recap the club had 4 runners with 4 winners, all receiving prizes on the day. A very proud coach Andy Townsend was so pleased for the athletes and the parents who had made the effort.

Upcoming Races

Upcoming Races

Hey up Racers

Next Mid Lancs cross country is this Saturday at Lancaster on Saturday 9th Feb, details on the Mid Lancs website, once again we need a team of at least 6 senior men to gain points.

The first Central Lancs Grand Prix of 2013 is the Bolton 5k starting and finishing on the track at Leverhulme Park Bolton on Sunday 17th Feb at 11am

I realise that this weekend we have a clash with the Winter Hill Fell Race but hopefully we can get at least 6 men out which will mean enough points to secure our place in the top division.

But – next week the Bolton 5k does not clash with any other races ( including Fell ) so we should be able to put together a strong team to kick start the season, have a look on the website to find the details about the Grand Prix. The main competition is first 10 to count from each club, ladies or men.

See you soon
