Mid Lancs Cross Country – Blackburn

A sunny but muddy day greeted our runners at Witton Park Blackburn for the 2nd race in this years Mid Lancs cross country series. We had made a brilliant start with a win in Division 2 at Barrow and  were hoping for a repeat performance at Blackburn, we were not to be disappointed and once again took the points easily.

The race consisted of 4 large laps around Witton Park including 2 climbs up the spoon and then the saucer making it quite a tough challenge for even the quicker lads in the team. First home for the Harriers was Dave Milliken finishing in 9th place overall, a superb run considering this was his first race after a long lay off through injury, next counter in 13th place was Ali Murray again looking very strong in the muddy conditions. Neil Pendlebury and Gareth Booth in 16th and 19th were our next counters and both had to dig deep into their reserves as this was not the kind of surface that they would prefer, but both did us proud. Making up the 6 counters required for our team were Simon Parkinson in 76th and Garry Chadderton in 109th, both running above themselves for the team.

Next was Stevie Nolan in 125th running with a hamstring injury, Tony McKenna in 144th, Gordon Stone in 208th, and Colin Wood in 216th who had fallen off his bike on the way to the race and started the race with blood pouring from his arms and legs ( trickling ) what a man !

Thanks to all of you and lets make it three in a row at Liverpool, I will be e.mailing you all soon to get the team together.

Cheers

Pete Bland
