Jubilee Race Wed 20th Aug

The final Jubilee race saw a much reduced field of 119 – mainly due to the weather. However this did not dampen the clubs enthusiasm with twenty Harriers running, who took all but the senior men’s team award, with Gareth and Gary on holiday and James away on business it was left to stalwart Paul Muller ( 27.29) to lead us in finishing in 11th place overall and first vet overall. Paul also finished second overall in the series and clearly won outright the series vet title. A strong Blackburn side took the senior men’s team with Horwich second, with Steve Nolan (28.10) Karl Ward (29.39) and Simon Parkinson (29.44) giving Paul good support.

The ladies again won the team title this time with Claire Burns (33.23) out front in 5th place, Claire also finished third overall in the series – not bad for her first full competitive years racing. Suzanne Budget (33.43) was not far behind in 6th place and with Christine Boardman (35.16) having a flyer (thanks Keith) taking 52 seconds off her previous best, the ladies were not challenged.

The men vets also had plain sailing in their team win with Paul Boardman and Doug Fleming helping Paul and Steve to a clear victory.

A mention for Chrissy Sweatman who took the 0/50 prize on the day and also won the 0/50 series title, well done. It was also great to see Horwich with two 0/70’s running, back on the scene was Dennis Weir running a sprightly 40.08 and John Coope, possibly not expecting opposition in this age group, running a fine 45.12. Well done chaps, keep it going

That’s another successful Jubilee series concluded with a special thanks to all those volunteers who helped to make it run so smoothly. Especially to those holding the reins for a poorly Gareth Hughes, who we all wish a speedy return to good health.
