Lancs County Cross UPDATED

Lancs County Cross Country Championship – Witton Park, Blackburn 30.01.11

A comparably small turnout from Horwich to this event saw a mere four representatives make the journey to this selection race for the prestigious inter-counties.  Where have all the Lancashire lads & lasses gone within our Club?  First home for the men was Gary Priestley who ran a hard, gutsy race finishing in a commendable 10th overall.  Next home was Andy Townsend who self confessed as not having run at Witton Park for the last 16 years.  Andy too ran a brill race to finish mid field.  The final male counter was Club stalwart Paul Murray who showed his endurance experience on this challenging 10k course by picking off a few on the way and picking up a silver medal for 2nd V65 as just reward.  The Clubs only female representative was Suzanne Budgett finishing 12th overall and also picking up a silver medal for 2nd V45.

Junior Horwich runners were only 3 strong on Saturday but did not disappoint. Phoebe Howe, ran an excellent race coming home in 4th and also qualifying to be selected for the
Lancashire squad running at the Nationals in March. Nathan Townsend came in a good 7th which we believe will also qualify him for a Lancashire vest. Zac Howe in the U17 came in a gallant 15th place.
