Three Horwich runners ran the Trimpell 20 in glorious weather, on a flat and although it was described as a scenic course, I couldn’t see over the banking to the river. First Horwicher home Russell Maddams, was 4th in a super time of 1.54.44, Russ is preparing for his next 50k race and wanted to try out this under distance race for a form and pace guide. Nick White ran well and was our second runner in 68th with a time of 2.15.23, Geraldine Walkington continued her heavy race program of mixed terrain events, this time a marker of form before her marathon. Her time of 2.28.23 for 151st should give her a time of around 3.17, just a couple of minutes off her anticipated time. It was a really pleasant course, all on cycle tracks, so no steering around parked cars or tripping over prams. Road races don’t seem to provide the after race care that the fell races do, no mugs of tea or sticky gooey cakes.
