Juniors

In the latest round of the Red Rose XC we had several juniors exceed their expectations.

In the U11’s Isobel Deans performance was matched by her result. Making up 3 better places than her Leigh run to come in a splendid 5th girl in her race. Jonathan Birchall had a storming run in the U13 Boys race coming home in 7 places better than Leigh in 7th. In the U15 girls Jodie Greenhalgh had the best start to her XC season home in 5th. Lucy Phillpotts had yet another strong performance home in 22nd. Boys U15’s Nathan Townsend after falling in the race a satisfied 8th after the incident. Jonathan Powis also ran a great race coming home in 15th place.

Ladies

A fantastic turnout of eight ladies for this race and what an exciting race ensued at the top end between Lindsey Brindle, Rachael Thompson & Louisa Thompson (Leigh). I know Rachael had a fall which lost her valuable seconds but she still made good ground finishing just 6 seconds behind Lindsey giving her third overall. Great to see Rachael regaining her old form. It was literally the clash of elbows between Lindsey & Louisa, neither giving way all the way to the finish line. It must have been in the ‘dip’ on the line as both girls have been given the same time but first place awarded to the Leigh Harrier. We had 4 ladies in the top 10 giving us first team again. A great start to the season. Superb runs too from Debbie Campbell (third Horwich counter), Michelle Devine, April Stevenson, Christa Watmough & Brenda Hesketh. Well done to the ladies – lets keep this momentum going.

Mens

With many of our men taking an end of season break, or with the cross country targets elsewhere, there was non the less a good number of harriers in attendance. Gareth Booth had an excellent run to finish 6th overall and first vet. Good runs from Graham Schofield, Andy Townsend, Doug Fleming, Tony Hesketh, a close battle between Colin Wood and Pete Ramsdale, and Ainsley Murphy completed the team.
