Smithills Serpent 5 Mile Trail Race – Sun 7th June.

Fifth Grand Prix Race.

The verdict on the new course was very favourable, with the three laps well marshalled and offering a nice variety of flat, and up and down running, with the added novelty in one place of small pieces of rubber mixed with the sand to ease the pounding – put there for the horses not the runners!

Colin Rigby enjoyed himself on this short course and looked impressive as he finished second in 29.03 and first vet. Alaistair Murray (29.47) and 3rd place was not quite as fast as he would have liked, but his recent training and racing exertions just taking the edge off him. Steve Nolan took the first 0/45 in a good time of 30.02 on his way to 4th gained with a super sprint finish! Denis Mason made up the winning team running strongly for 8th and looking good for his 31.08. Pete Bland (37.37) collected another 0/60 award, after having a better than average run, but he did enjoy the course! Gill Burnell took another 0/55 award in her stride, running well for 45.13.
We also had two new members racing, Claire Hughes ran 43.46, and Alan Finch clocked 51.32, welcome to the club. …… 15 club members ran.
