YDL Upper Age 28th April Stockport

In the first YDL Upper age group meeting the team travelled to Stockport, we had 4 boy and 5 girl athletes competing. There were 4 U17’s boys, Noah Saunders, Nathan walker, Nathan Townsend and James Lovell.

Noah and Nathan Walker both ran the 100 and 200 metres, Noah ran 12.5 and 26.2 as the U17’s, while Nathan ran 12.8 and 27.1 as an U20’s both gaining valuable points and both of the boys competed in a field event, Noah throwing 11.25 in the Discus while Nathan threw 6.89 in the Shot Put.

Nathan Townsend kindly ran the 400 metres as an U20 and ran a very respectable 60.7 as he was running the 1500 metres later which is his preferred event. Nathan finished 1st in a good time of 4.35.1 and completed the day with a 2nd place in the U20’s Long Jump.

The performance off the day has to go to James Lovell, he jumped 5.16 in the Long Jump finishing 2nd he also ran the 200 metres in 24.9 and then smashed 2.6 seconds of the 400 metres with a time of 52.9 which puts him 7th in the North West.

The boys then teamed up for the 4 x 100 relay, Noah ran the first leg, then Nathan W, Nathan T and James brought the team home in 2nd position, with a time of 49.9 well done boys.

Meanwhile the girls also had a fantastic day doing themselves proud, we had 4 U17’s Lauren Banks, Natassia Dacre, Grace Shelmerdine and Sophie Williams, while Beth Miller was the only U20’s. Lauren ran the 100 metres for the U17’s in 14.2 and the 200 metres in 29.6 as an U20’s and jumped 3.68 in the Long Jump. Grace did both the Long and Triple Jump, jumping 4.86 and getting a new PB and 9.42 respectively. She also ran a good 44.3 in the 300 metres.

Tash as she is known threw the Hammer smashing her PB by 3.67 metres with a throw of 19.72 and in the Discus throwing 17.04 and she came 1st as an U20’s in the Javelin with a throw of 31.40. Sophie started the day off running the 300 metre Hurdles, this was her first race at this distance, she won the race in 54.4. She also ran the 200 metres in 28.9 and finished the day off like Tash by coming 1st in the Javelin with a throw of 25.85.

Beth was our only U20’s running both the 100 and 200 metres in 13.4 and 27.9 respectively and did the Shot Put throwing 7.11.

Tash then very kindly withdrew from the relay team so the other 3 girls could move up and run with Beth as an U20’s team, Lauren ran the first leg, then Sophie, Grace had the 3rd leg and Beth brought the team home in 1st position in 55.7.

The team finished 3rd overall with 289 points.
