Bowley Hill Trail Race

Bowley Hill Trail Race – Great Harwood Show, Lancashire

Monday 4 June 2013

The Bowley Hill Trail Race is held in conjunction with the Great Harwood Agricultural Show. The race information describes the race as being 5.5 miles and 1000ft FOC (it was measured on my Garmin at 6.90 miles / 698 FOC ) but the reality was everyone took an early wrong turn after only 400 yards due to poor marshalling and a rather complex, bizarre course route out of the event show ground.

It was certainly very easy to go wrong many times if new to the course despite it being marked periodically with tape and marshalled. Local footpaths and bridleways in the vicinity of Great Harwood were used and some hill climbing involved to the top of Bowley Hill before retracing our steps back to the Show Ground.

Anthony Valentine (Bolton Harriers) and Chris Barnes (Blackburn) took the early pace closely followed by our fast improving Dave Jackson hot on their heels.

In the clubs quest to really dominate in all running disciplines this was a great message being sent out to the fell fraternity that the harriers mean business taking ALL honours on the day claiming 1st overall position and 1st team prize.

1st Martyn Bell – 39m 22s
3rd Dave Jackson – 40m 51s
8th Paul Muller – 43m 55s
17th Tony Hesketh – 49m 53s
