Mid Lancs 18th May Preston

In the second Mid Lancs meeting this season a total of 24 athletes turned out for Horwich, 7 male competitors and 17 females. There were 2 senior men Mike Houghton and Trevor Williams gaining 12 points between them and Trevor gaining maximum points in the Hammer and a setting a new Club Record. We had 4 U17’s boys James Lovell, Nathan Walker Joe Partington and Jack Close, the boys won 5 events between them, James won the 100 in 11.8 and the 400 metres, Joe won the Javelin and Discus with throws of 31.09 and 20.79 respectively. Meanwhile Jack came to his 1st meeting and won the High Jump with a 1.55 jump. Nathan gained a valuable 12 points in his events the 100 and 200 metres and Discus.

We had one U15’s boy Jonathan Birchall who ran the 1500 metres in 5.13.7 and jumping 3.51 in the Long Jump.

Meanwhile the girls did also gave excellent performances , with both the senior women Beth Miller and Kelly Laughton gaining valuable points, Beth winning the 100 metres in13.0 and Kelly winning the High Jump with a 1.40 jump and an extra 8 points in the Long and Triple Jumps. We had 2 U17’s girls Sophie Williams and Lauren Banks both girls gave good performances in the 100, 200 and 300 metres and the High Jump and gaining the team 12 valuable points. The U15’s had the most competitors with 7 girls, Ellie Dacre, Emily Shelmerdine, Katy Marsh, Rebecca Mullaney and Emma Partington ran the 100m in 14.6, 14.2, 14.4, 13.8 and 14.9 respectively. Hannah Stephenson ran and came 1st in the 300 metres with a great time of 44.6 while Olivia Lowe ran the 1500 metres in 5.46 in her first Mid Lancs meeting.

In the U13’s all 6 girls ran the 100 metres Katie Shingler 14.0 secs, Evie Barclay 15.2, Ella Harper 14.5, Helena Norris 15.1, Sophie Stewart 14.5 and Emily Lowe 17.7. In the 200 metres Sophie won the race in 29.3 and gained maximum points, while Ella came second with a time of 29.4. Both Helena and Emily also ran the 200 metres in 31.2 and 38.1. Evie won the Javelin with a throw of 19.78 and also did the Long Jump, while Katie Shingler, once again won and gained maximum points in the High Jump and Long Jump.

Now after 2 meetings the girls are in 4th position in Division 1 with 169 points and the men are in 3rd position in Division 2 with 152.5 points.
