Horwich Juniors Shine @ Red Rose XC, Leverhulme Park, Bolton

The 3rd race of the Red Rose XC brought out only the brave souls for the club. With the temperature of only 4 degrees a driving rain and hailstones it was proving hard to keep a positive focus, however not to be out done the club Juniors went on with several successes. The mud and cold was certainly taking its toll on these athletes with rain proving to much for some. There was no playing it cool as temperatures were doing that for everyone even spectators.

Penny Townsend taking the lead from the gun lead a chasing pack. As the race settled down and Penny took a commanding lead others could only look on. Her convincing win also gave her the series as her 3 wins now means she cannot be beaten. Penny helped Ella Pendlebury, Jessica Glendenning & Chloe Squires to claim 3rd place team.

The U11 Boys also achieved 3rd place team with Thomas Massey a splendid 4th, Matthew Flatters, Luke Brindle, Lucas Milliken, Issac Simmonite, Nathan Lancaster, Toby Middleton, Joe Jackson, Issac Keating & Joshua Houghton.

In the U13 Girls Ellie Baker had her best run of the series with a splendid 25th and Hannah Platt in 47th. The Boys Team managed 6th with Lewis Wilkes, Kieran Kinealy, Robert Seddon, Jake Glendenning and Daniel Rowe.

Luke Massey , Adam Roper & Robert Gibson managed a 7th team spot for the U15s and Gemma Howe making her 3rd appearance with a strong 18th placing. Abigail Cox had a deserved 21st place for her hard slog.

It was left to our last Junior Nathan Townsend to bring a result home. His 2nd Place has kept him in title contention going into the last race at Marl Pitts. An excellent result after a grueling 5k of mud, blood, seat and tears.
