Three Shires Fell Race – 13m/4000ft

After the clear weather we’d had last week, a few clouds and a touch of rain decided to take part in this years race. The clagg lingering around on the peaks of Wetherlam and Swirl How and the rain joining in for the trek up to Blisco. There were also tales of navigation errors throughout the field being told at the finish too with one group of about 30 runners playing follow the leader, keeping too far left on the run down to the Three Shires Stone and only just making the 2 hour cut-off. Darren Kay (2:04.10) was our first runner home in 11th, quicker than last year but still not optimizing route choice! Albert Sunter finishing in 114th (2:42.56) followed just 5 mins later by Pete Walkington in 139th (2:48.00). Our 4th runner Rachel Metcalfe come home in 3:10.57 and finally, taking on this race for the first time, Mark Sammon was our final runner in 262nd (3:39.34).
