Misty, squelchy, mild conditions greeted the 118 runners tasked with completing a 10k course consisting of 3 tough but runnable loops that took in a short but steep hill on each loop – it was interesting to note quite a few runners reduced to a walk even at the front end !

However, very quickly a group of 3 runners took charge consisting of defending county champion Carl Hardman (Salford), Joe Steward (East Cheshire Harriers) and Matt Bond (Sale) all working together and quickly separating from the isolated Mike Cayton who ran in effect a time trial in 4th position but clear of all other opposition and into the county team.

The top 4 automatically secured a county vest for the inter counties xc championships on Saturday 11th March in Loughborough.

Mike was backed up with the following individuals : – Nick Leigh 10th / Jonathan Bruton 18th / Sam Wardle (u20) 19th / Ali Murray 25th / Simon Pymm 26th / Mike Hallas 44th / Dave Milliken 46th

Horwich gained a bronze team medal with 4 counters being Mike Cayton, Nick Leigh, Jonathan Bruton and Sam Wardle.

1st Salford Harriers – 44 points
2nd Sale – 49 points
3rd Horwich RMI Harriers – 51 points (4 to count)
4th Bolton harriers – 88 Points
