The First of the English Fell Championship races took place @ The Anniversary Waltz in Stair Cumbria.
In the U13’s race our team consisted of Phoebe Howe for the girls, Will Townsend, Nathan Townsend and Cameron Critchley. As the race set off at a fast pace is was Phoebe Howe that was the first club runner to the steep summit.
Just behind Phoebe @ the top was Cameron who has clearly found confidence and form for this race. Nathan was next just behind our 2 front runners. Will was not far down having run up parts others barely crawled. In the decent it was whoever could keep upright whilst literally bouncing down the Fell. And in the final race to the finish it was Nathan just getting 3rd placed boy. Cameron 7th boy in, Phoebe was 3rd girl and Will came in A gallant 17th.
In the U 14’s Race Joseph Howe and Jonathan Powis had their work certainly cut out with a higher Fell to claim. Joseph made a great start but found the hands and knees approach somewhat challenging and got to the summit in 12th. His decent proved just as positive and 12th was his final placing in a field of 45 runners Jonathan in the meantime found the move up to U14’s rather difficult after weeks of injury and felt he needed more time to have prepared.
Lastly it leaves our stalwart Zac Howe who was just out for a good run, That turned out to be the run of his career so far finishing a fantastic 8th Boy. Having a result as good as this puts Zac on a high for the rest of the season.
