Would joining Horwich R.M.I. Athletics Club be right for me/us?

Although, with over 300 members, Horwich Athletics Club is one of the larger clubs affiliated to the Greater Manchester athletics region, it is also has the reputation of being a very friendly club which attracts members from both a wide range of ages and experience levels.  The club offers both individual and family membership.  The club also welcomes with open arms those who might be interested in supporting the club by volunteering – no experience necessary as others will guide you (e.g. helping with registration at races; marshalling local races).

Senior members

The club has around 200 adult male members, and 50 adult lady members ranging in age from 20 to 60’s, with some just starting out and others with years of experience.

There is a friendly, positive atmosphere at the club with the opportunity to participate in social runs, with plenty of chances to discover new routes in the surrounding beautiful countryside.  The people around you will soon become familiar faces.

Interests in road, cross-country and fell running are all catered for, and we encourage any interested ladies to follow their interests, under the watchful eye of qualified coaches.

For those wanting to take things a bit further, there are a number of club training sessions throughout the week.  Why not come along for a taster on a Tuesday evening for a taster of the Senior Track session at the Bolton Arena from 6.30pm.  This is structured around speedwork for a range of abilities, but no less suitable for a beginner.  There is also a Hill Session on Thursday evenings meeting at the junction of Foxholes Rd and Factory Hill, Horwich at 6.45pm.  All sessions are lead by qualified coaches, and are a good opportunity to get some advice (further information in the Coaching section of the website).

Informal Runners Group (Senior)

This group includes runners of all standards, including beginners, who join for a variety of reasons including social, keeping fit, and running competitively at a non-elite level. The group is informal and friendly and sessions are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, with Saturday trail runs at 9am. More details in the Coaching section.
