Flora London Marathon – Charity Appeal

Two of our members Rachel Fry and Jennifer Evans will be running the London Marathon on April 13th and helping to raise money for Refuge.  Please try to support them and help with sponsorship if you can.  Both joined the Horwich RMI Harriers last summer, neither having run since school so at first they could only manage to run a few miles.  They wanted to try and run the marathon and raise money for charity, and they have steadily increased their mileage and distance by running with the Horwich RMI Harriers’ Tuesday group each week.  Indeed, some from the Tuesday night group have also been meeting on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings in order to increase their training.

To reach their target of £1800 Rachel and Jennifer have been organising days bag packing at supermarkets, carboot sales, dress down at work days and parties.  But before the race they are mainly concentrating on raising sponsorship because they need to spend a lot of time training!

Both would like to thank everyone for visiting their fundraising page on the web - www.justgiving.com/rachelandjen.  Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor them.  Refuge will receive the money faster and if you are a UK taxpayer an extra 28% could be added to your gift at no cost to yourself.  Rachel can also be contacted on 01772 426219.

About their charity: Refuge. Charity Registration No 277424.
Refuge is a national charity for women and children who experience domestic violence, providing emergency accommodation and emotional and practical support.  Since opening the world's first women's safe house in London in 1971, Refuge has grown to become the UK's largest organisation of its kind, helping and supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence and acting as a national 'lifeline' for up to 80,000 victims of domestic abuse every year.

Good luck to Rachel and Jennifer in running the London Marathon and raising money for such a worthy cause.  Good luck and all the best to all our members competing in the event this year.
