Karen Murray

I was born 3rd December 1978 in the Welsh valleys. As a member of the famous Von Smout running family, and Abertillery Achilles Athletics club I was, in my youth, regularly seen climbing every mountain, and fording the occasional stream.

Emigrating to Preston to get a proper education I eventually settled in Horwich, after hearing that there was a really good running club in the area (yes I mean the Harriers).

I have been training hard for about a year now, and with the help of Norman Matthews, have improved beyond all recognition in those 12 months. Let’s see what the next 12 months bring.

Highlights
Representing Wales at the Home Countries International Fell Running Championships in April 2005 and finishing 3rd at the Welsh 5K Road Championships.

Running downhill and arm wrestling.
