I joined Horwich in 2001 when the foot and mouth outbreak put the fells off-limits and forced me to run on tarmac.  Although known for doing the occasional road race (eg the Isle of Barra half marathon) I prefer the fells.

Under Norman’s watchful eye I experienced a series of highly placed results in 2002, but became like a kid in a sweet shop and tried to do too much (as well as running I orienteer, mountain bike and adventure race).  If asked, the answer was always “Yes”.

Injury and then a focus on adventure racing meant less time for the fells in 2003, and by 2004, disillusioned and with ever-increasing work and DIY commitments, I had succumbed once more to that banned substance known as chocolate coated flapjack, and have remained fairly quiet on the results front ever since.

Into 2006 I hope to conclude various items of “unfinished business” within a more coherent plan (for me that means saying “No” a few times) and above all, enjoy it!
