I started running for Bolton Harriers (boo hiss!).  At seven years old I came fourth from last in my first cross country.  I carried on running until a serious motorbike accident at 17 laid me up for a few years - went from 9 stone to 13 stone and developed a love for beer, toffees and chocolate!  As soon as poss I started cycling, the weight came off and I wanted to get fit again.

I started running again in 1997, my aim being to run 6 miles.  Soon got the bug!  My first race was a 5 mile cross country at Bury.  I managed 2 laps then pulled out frothing at the mouth.

I concentrated on the fells for a long time, getting reasonably good but rubbish at descending and a recurrent ankle injury persuaded me to try the roads.

Enjoying the roads at the moment, I've just completed my first marathon (Anglesey Sept 2005 - a tough, undulating course!).  Unfortunately the cramps set in at 21 miles, dropping me from 3rd to 6th place at the finish, and slowing my time from 2hrs 50mins to 3hrs.

Already signed up for Anglesey marathon 2006 though!!  Aiming for top 3.....watch this space......!!!!!
