I starting running in 1981 age 38 after watching the first Bolton Marathon.  After only 3 months training I ran the Barnsley Marathon in 3hrs 19mins and decided I enjoyed running so much that I would give it a real go.  Joined Bolton Harriers but did not like the elitist culture that they had at that time.  I therefore joined Horwich in 1984 and have really enjoyed the friendly environment whether you are an elite runner or just a fun runner who enjoys a bit of competition.  During the last 10 years I have had serious problems with spondylitis and arthritis in my neck and foot.  However these are now under control and running is a real enjoyment once more.  My ambition is to run London when I am 70 and finish in under 3hrs 10mins.  My favourite distance is the marathon.  My most enjoyable experience was being part of the Pennine Way attempt at the record.  This was a fabulous team effort and the comradeship second to none.  This just about surpassed the first Welsh Castles Relay that Horwich entered.

My PBs are:
