I have had a few good results in my teens with the help of Pete Bland’s form of coaching. He would drive behind me in his car telling me that if I slowed down on the half mile reps – in the dark up Rivington – he would run over me! Later Pete passed me on to Norman and it really got tough. My achievements have been in all disciplines with my third in the British Intermediate fell championship standing out as a junior. In the senior ranks I have enjoyed doing our local club races winning Two Lads twice in record times, and the Winter Hill race a couple of times. My best in the Pike race was second in 17.15. My Down Hill Race record of 16.54 still stands from 1994. At cross country I won the SEL league and on the roads I managed a Chorley 4 time of 18.54 and a 10k time of 30.14 at Blackpool. My track time for 5k is 14.55 and 15.48 for the Chorley Park 5k, a record I still hold. My
running career came to a halt when I was diagnosed with Glandular fever
in 1992 and since then I have been up and down like a fiddlers elbow,
but hope springs eternal and I still
