Mid Lancs Cross Country

Just Champion

After running in local cross country leagues for many years, Horwich decided to challenge themselves by entering a higher standard of competition by entering the Mid Lancs XC league in 2008. The structure and rules state that new clubs enter the league in division 4. So over the next 3 years Horwich won successive promotions to division 1 in 2011. In their first year in the top division they achieved 3rd place and then last year following a real battle Horwich finished 5th and narrowly avoided relegation. This made the club even more determined to prove their credentials. After 5 of 6 races Horwich had it all to do, lying in 5th place but all places above were available. If Horwich can secure first place then they can win the championship. On Saturday in Kendal the red and black of Horwich turned out in force to complete a wonderful victory. They beat Southport Waterloo by three points on the day and so the league by 1 point. So in just 6 years they have achieved the ultimate accolade of Champions of the Mid Lancs XC league.

Chairman Pete Ramsdale said after Saturdays result, “This is the result of years of hard work in the planning, training and commitment to the club from some wonderful athletes and coaches. Every race stretched the club but that is why we joined the league. I am very proud of everyone who has contributed to this wonderful result.”
