Beginner Ladies and Men
This group includes members who join for a
variety of reasons including social, who want to meet other
like-minded runners who are just starting out. The group meet
for a road session on Tuesdays at 7pm at Horwich Leisure Centre.
In the summer, there are more chances to go off-road through
beautiful Rivington. Also in the summer, on Mondays, the
ladies can participate in runs from Horwich Leisure Centre at 7pm.
For more information about sessions - ladies contact Brenda Hesketh
(01204) 668183, and men Tony Hesketh (01204) 668183.
Here is a profile from a current member of this group:
Rachel Fry
Age:
30
Previous Experience:
My previous running experience was at my
High School sports day! My usual exercise was going to the gym
or walking.
Motivation to Join:
Every year I watched the London marathon
and always though that I would love to do it because of the
atmosphere and sense of achievement.
What's it like?:
I started attending the Tuesday night
running club. Everyone was very friendly and supportive, the
coach explained the route and advised me to go at a comfortable
pace. I was reassured that I would not be left behind!
The routes during summer months can go alongside the Rivington
Reservoirs, during winter we stick to safer road routes. The
clubs coaches offered advice on avoiding injury, safety, running
technique, kit and how to overcome mental barriers. I have no
doubt that if I had not joined the club and received this
encouragement, I would not have achieved so much. I am
currently training for the London marathon, the coach has produced a
personal training plan and gives me support and advice on how to
reach my goal.
