Horwich Juniors were again the largest team to turn out for the last Sportshall League meeting of the season.  Even with the Christmas break the young athletes performed to the highest standard, with many maintaining and even improving on their results from the previous meetings.

Notable performances were by Jack Thomas, Bruce Pilkington, Sam Gough and Daniel Rhodes for the under 15 Boys; always being in the first 3 positions for their events.  In the under 13 Boys, Josh Dunn came away with three 1st places, while Ryan Wagstaffe was always in the top four.

In the under 11 boys Sam Waters achieved two 2nd places, but Toby Jacques, Adam Ekubia, Christopher Traw and Lucas Arrona gained many valuable points.

The performance of the girls teams was exceptional against very strong competition.  The under 15 girls made up of Becca Norris, Becky Murphy-Bates, Becky Crompton, Lianna Lonsdale and Camille Grimes are unofficially in gold medal place, and all had brilliant results.  The under 13’s girls of Rachel Pearson, Vicky Bates, Beth Pilkington, Samantha Arrona and Olivia Jarvis were very strong in the field events, while Lexi Cochrane won the 4 lap.  In the under 11 girls, Tiffany Dacre was our best athlete but she was well supported by Natassia Dacre, Beth Rothwell, Laura Norris and Hannah Rhodes.

The forthcoming Sportshall Championships for Greater Manchester will prove the ability and depth of the Junior Horwich RMI athletic squad, and hopefully bring back a good medal haul.
