The Greater Manchester Sportshall Championships held on 16th Jan at the Dome, Platt Lane Sports Complex, Manchester, gave the 35 junior Horwich RMI Harriers athletes a record fistful of medals.

The 29 medals won by the athletes were made up of 9 Gold medals – won by:

• Under 11 Sam Waters – 3 lap
• Under 13 Ben Massey – Standing long jump and standing triple jump
• Under 13 Lexi Cochrane – 4 lap
• Under 15 Bruce Pilkington – 4 lap and 2 lap
• Under 15 Becca Norris – speed bounce
• Under 13 Boys relay
• Under 15 boys relay

All the above athletes are now County Champions.

8 Silver medals won by:

• Under 13 Ben Massey – 2 lap
• Under 13 Ryan Mason – standing long jump and vertical jump
• Under 15 Jack Thomas – 2 lap
• Under 15 Sam Gough – 6 lap
• Under 15 Josh Bettis – standing long jump
• Under 15 Becky Crompton – shot putt
• Under 15 girls first team relay

12 Bronze medals:

• Under 11 Sam Waters – vertical jump
• Under 13 Ryan Mason – 2 lap
• Under 15 Jack Thomas – 4 lap and standing triple jump
• Under 15 Sam Gough – vertical jump
• Under 15 Lauren Ashton - 4 lap and standing triple jump
• Under 15 Becky Crompton – standing long jump and speed bounce
• Under 15 Becca Norris – vertical jump
• Under 15 Becky Murphy-Bates – 6 lap
• Under 15 Girls second team relay

The performances given by all of the junior athletes were of a very high standard.  Strong competition came from athletes representing clubs situated all over Greater Manchester area but Horwich RMI Harriers were the strongest on the day overall.

Many of these athletes will now be representing Greater Manchester in the Regional finals for Sportshall and competing against athletes from the whole of the North West.

During the summer season the athletes will be competing in 3 leagues and if you are interested in running, throwing or jumping we need as many athletes as possible to maintain the high standards in each age group.  We also have a lot of fun!
