Sunday 8th May saw the first combined event for Bolton Harriers and Horwich RMI at the Young Athletes League match at Wigan’s Robin Park Stadium.  Over 50 young athletes took part and they finished in 2nd position, a fantastic start to the season.

The girls had a tremendous day with many athletes achieving personal bests.  Congratulations to Jordanna Denton who came 1st in both the 150m and 800m in the under 13 age group whilst Becky Crompton came 1st in 300m and 75m Hurdles also achieving 2 PB’s in the Under 15 age group.  Rachel Pounds had an excellent day coming 1st in 300m and 800m ‘A’ races achieving a PB in the 300m, and was supported by Liz Holt who came 1st in 300m and 800m in the B string in the U17 women’s competition.  They also finished the day off with a win in the 4 x 400 relay and a second in the 4 x 100 relay.

In the boys match there were some excellent performances by the under 17 men with wins by Joe Christopher in the 1500m, Jack Thomas in the Triple Jump and Josh Bettis in both the Long and High Jump.  The under 17 men then finished the day with a fantastic a win in the 4 x 100m relay.  In the under 15 age group Michael O’Donnell led the way with wins in the Pole Vault and Hammer whilst in the under 13 age group Josh Boaler won the B string Long Jump and was second in the A string Shot and High Jump.
