Greater Manchester Championships 14-15th May 2005 Horwich RMI showed that they are producing quality athletes with some outstanding performances at the Greater Manchester Championships. Titles are hard to come by at this level, however Horwich RMI produced two new county champions. In the girls Becky Norris and Lauren Ashton have been battling in every meeting over 300m H and so it was again with Becky coming out the victor in a new club record with Lauren just behind producing a Gold and Silver for the club. Becky also had a good run to earn silver in the 80m H whilst Lauren knocked two seconds off her personal best over 300m flat. Under 13 Lexi Cochrane has been showing her versatility this summer and again her all round skills where on show at Trafford as she earned two silver medals in the 150m and the shot and a bronze over 75m. Whilst under 15 Becky Murphy-bates produced a new lifetime best over 200m. However the girls were not the only stars on show as the boys also showed they can produce quality performances. Leading the way was Sam Gough who completely destroyed the opposition by 5 seconds in winning the 400m in a new U15 club record. Not to be outdone Bruce Pilkington produced a club record breaking run in the under 17 event when earning silver, whilst Josh Bettis finished 4th in the same race also in a lifetime best. Both Bruce and Josh were in action again over 200m where Bruce again produced a lifetime best of 23.6 but had to settle for bronze. Josh on the other hand showed his talent as a jumper picking up bronze in the High Jump. Not to be outdone Jack Thomas showed his skill in the Triple Jump earning silver in a personal best. Also getting on the medal table was under 13 Ben Massey who snatched bronze in the long jump with a best leap of 4.27.
