Greater Manchester Championships 13-4 May 2006 During a cold and wet weekend Horwich RMI had a great time at the Greater Manchester Track and Field Championships winning three times more gold medals than last year and also setting three new club records. The weekend got off to a good start on Saturday with Megan Christopher and Rebecca Keating winning gold and silver in the U 15 high jump. Both Megan and Rebecca then also ran personal bests over 100m. Bruce Pilkington then continued his winning streak over 400m by landing the gold medal with a 51.4 performance. Becky Murphy – Bates and Lexi Cochrane were both unlucky to finish just outside the medals in 4th place over 300m and discus respectively although both were rewarded with personal bests, and Rebecca Buchanan made the finals of both the 100m and 200m finishing 6th in both finals. Sunday saw the medals tally increase with Jack Thomas first off the mark winning the U 17 triple jump before finishing 5th in the 100m final. Tom Higgins set a new club record over 800 when winning the U 13 event whilst Becky Norris did likewise when retaining her 300m Hurdles title. Stephen Sangwa also struck gold this time over 400 m Hurdles whilst Becky Murphy-Bates had a big improvement over 200m to earn a bronze medal and break the 3rd club record of the day. To finish the weekend off on a high Bruce Pilkington finished 2nd in the U 17 200m. Saturday results |
