Horwich RMI Harriers Juniors 3rd in Lancashire

Horwich RMI Juniors i.e. Under 11’s, 13’s and 15’s Boys and Girls fielded a total of 25 athletes on the final day of a very exciting tournament held at Blackpool Stanley Park Sports Centre in which over 150 athletes took part from all over Lancashire.

The standard of athletics provided by this league is of a high calibre and extremely competitive.  Horwich RMI Harriers were up against the might of top clubs like Blackpool, Preston, Blackburn, Lancaster & Morecambe, Hyndburn & Kendal.  In all, 13 different clubs and Schools were represented in this 3 match tournament.

Horwich RMI Harriers are very proud to announce that 3 athletes have been chosen to represent Lancashire for the Under 13’s & Under 15’s Team in the Regional Final on 25th February 2007 to be held at Wigan.  Congratulations to Matthew Storey, (Under 15 Boys) – Jack Massey, (Under 13 Boys) and Tiffany Dacre, (Under 13 Girls).  Well done and Good Luck in Wigan.

The final overall team positions meant that Horwich finished 3rd, just 1 point behind Preston Harriers, who were runners-up to the mighty Blackpool & Fylde AC, who were well-deserved winners of a fantastic competition.  Congratulations to Blackpool.

18 personal bests on the day and some individual performances are highlighted below:-

Under 11’s

In the Boys event, Matthew Gibson, Joseph Roberts, Sam Mercer and Tim Raines continued to produce excellent performances, but one of the highlights was James Cropper with a throw of 7.75m in the sitting throw, just 0.5m behind the Lancashire record!  In the under 11 Boys category Horwich finished 2nd to Blackpool overall!

For the Girls, there were brave performances from Zoe Gaskell, Phoebe Howe, Martha Gill and Natassia Dacre, but again, highlight of the day was the emerging talent of Bethany Miller, who continues to get stronger with 1st places in both the 4 lap race and the Vertical Jump with 48cm.  The girls finished 4th overall in their category.

Under 13’s

In the Boys event, Jack Massey came 2nd in the Long Jump and Zac Howe 3rd in the 6 lap and Speed Bounce events. Other good solid performances were provided by Adam Critchley and Matthew Ault.  The Boys came 3rd overall in their category for the tournament.

For the Girls there were excellent performances from both Anna Charnley who continues to impress and Tiffany Dacre who came 1st in the 4 Lap and 3rd in the 2 Lap races.  Overall the Girls came 4th for this season.

Under 15’s

For the Boys, there was a great individual performance from Jack Massey who came 3rd in Long Jump and Speed Bounce.  The Boys finished 2nd overall in this category.

The Girls also finished 2nd in their category, narrowly just losing out to Preston, but a fine team performance was given by our team of Katie Hamblett, Vicky Bates, Rachel Pearson and Edith Nsarhaza (Incidentally, Edith won the Vertical Jump with an amazing 57cm!).
